Being Tokyo, one of the biggest cities in the world, it is divided in 23 areas, called special wards. These wards are called “special” because they are governed as if they were cities, that means they have their own mayor and assembly like any other city.

Although Tokyo is one of the most expensive cities in the world, it is also one of the most visited by tourists. Attracted by its uniqueness, cooking, technology and people, millions visit Tokyo every year looking for adventures in a city that never sleeps.

You can visit places like the Tokyo Tower, the Shibuya district, Akihabara, among others so, grab your passport and come visit Tokyo!

The Tokyo Tower: an amazing monument

In Tokyo, we can find a tower similar to the Eiffel Tower in France; the first one was built by architects who were inspired by the last one. They were convinced that their city should have a tower that identifies their city, they named it: the Tokyo Tower. This tower is located in the area of Minato, Japan. The history that surrounds it, the differences and similarities with the Eiffel Tower, and the functions of this tower is a curious topic.

This tower was finished on October 14 of 1958; and in December of that year was accessible to the public for the first time. The Tokyo tower measures 332.6 meters in height, making it taller than the French tower. It is also said that it was built with metal from the ships of the Japanese fleet in World War II, and this metal makes its weight more than 4000 tons. All this makes the tower in Tokyo even more amazing than the Eiffel Tower.

The Tokyo tower has several floors for visitors and tourists in the area, besides a viewpoint on each floor. The first floor has an altitude of 150 meters, has huge windows that give an incredible view of the city. Watching the sunset through its windows is an appeal of the tower and, the lights that illuminate the city is a delightful sight. The second viewpoint is special because it reaches 250 meters from where you can see, if the weather conditions are favorable, the monumental Mount Fuji.

Inside the tower, you can also visit the aquarium which is located on the first floor. This aquarium contains more than 50,000 different species of fish. There are also an Art Gallery Tips, souvenir shop and even a small Wax Museum. All these aspects are what make this tower, a tourist stop for everyone who wants to get to know the city. Also the Tokyo Tower functions as a big antenna that transmits radio and television signals.

Although the tower’s main task is being the issuer of communication signals, it is an obligatory place for tourists to visit. At first sight, the tower draws your attention with its colors; they are orange and white following the laws of the country's civil aviation. These colors may vary on special days such as World Day of the Fight against the Diabetes when the tower is covered in blue lights. It is an experience that all the tourists and citizens of the region should live so, we recommend you to visit these sceneries of the tower, you’ll enjoy them

Akihabara: Electric Town

Akihabara, translated as "Field of Autumn Leaves" and also known as Akihabara Electric Town is an area of Tokyo, Japan which is located less than five minutes by rail from Tokyo Station. Its name is frequently shortened to Akiba  in Japan.

Akihabara is a major shopping area for electronic, computer, japanese comics and otaku goods, including new and used items. New items are mostly to be found on the main street, Chūōdōri, with many kinds of used items found in the back streets of Soto Kanda 3-chōme. Foreign tourists tend to visit the big name shops like Laox or other speciality shops near the station, though there is more variety and lower prices at locales a little further away. Akihabara gained some fame through being home to one of the first stores devoted to personal robots and robotics.

Redevelopment of Akihabara

A large scale redevelopment of the area north and east of Akihabara Station as well as of the station itself is nearing completion. The result are several new buildings such as the Akihabara Dai Building (opened in spring 2005), Akihabara UDX (opened in spring 2006) and Yodobashi Akiba Building (opened in autumn 2005).
Furthermore, Akihabara has been serving as the terminal station of the Tsukuba Express since August 2005. A brand new railway line, the Tsukuba Express connects central Tokyo with Tsukuba City in western Ibaraki Prefecture.

Also, in this part of the city you can the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building, the core of all the political activities in the region, which means that in this building is where all the decisions are taken. In this side of town we can find the Hilton and the Hyatt Hotels, in case you want to stay in those hotels.
